Monroe Kitchen Equipment Frequently Asked Questions

What gauge of stainless steel do you use for sinks and countertops?

Monroe Kitchen Equipment uses 14 gauge stainless steel. The thicker gauge is less susceptible to denting. Lighter gauges (16 and 18) are available upon request.

What is a #4 finish?

The #4 is the polish rating. A #4 finish is the most common of stainless steel cosmetic finishes. It appears as a fine, single directional grain and is also known as a brushed or satin finish.

Is stainless steel difficult to clean?

No, stainless steel is easy to clean. Stainless steel is the normal choice of material in catering and food preparation areas. The smooth and non porous surface makes it difficult for bacteria and other micro-organisms to adhere and survive. Clean your stainless steel sink and countertop frequently with warm water, soap, or ammonia using a sponge or soft cloth. Thoroughly rinse with water, and wipe dry with a soft cloth to eliminate water spots. Avoid abrasive products as they will leave scratches. On brushed and polished surfaces, wipe along the grain and not across it. Glass cleaners also perform well.

Is stainless steel more expensive than laminate?

Yes, but unlike laminate, stainless steel holds it beauty and will last almost indefinitely.

Is stainless steel more expensive than solid surface materials?

NO. Stainless steel is competitively priced compared to solid surface materials and is less expensive than marble and granite.

What is an integral sink?

A fabricated stainless steel sink that is welded to the countertop and then ground and polished to match the countertop finish.

What is a backsplash?

It is the vertical portion at the rear of a countertop, normally 4”-6” that protects the adjacent wall surface. Back splashes on countertops are formed from the original sheet, making them integral to the countertop.

How much is shipping?

It varies by weight, quantity, and distance. A budget figure can be established and included in your quote.
